Overlooking the Black River at its waterfront location on the corner of Water and Military Street, Port Huron’s newest hotel offers visitors the opportunity to stay right in the heart of downtown with close proximity to all the Blue Water Area has to offer.

CityFlatsHotel – Port Huron recently had its official grand opening on June 20, joining the CityFlatsHotel fleet and becoming the third Michigan-based hotel for owners Chuck and Donna Reed. Not only was the three-story building’s historic architecture preserved, but the hotel offers modern, eco-friendly features with rates varying from $289-400 a night depending on room size and time of year.

“We have 18 rooms each with a unique design, including one master suite with a soaking tub and  sitting room, all furnished by Charter House Innovations based out of Zeeland, Michigan,” says Katie Fields, General Manager of CityFlatsHotel – Port Huron.

The hotel’s event space, the Ballroom, can comfortably hold up to 300 guests and highlights the interesting architecture from when the building previously served as a bank.

Originally built in 1927 as the Federal Commercial and Savings Bank, it was later renamed to the First National Trust Savings Bank in 1929 until it was eventually changed to Michigan National Bank.

“The hotel has the original flooring throughout, marble columns, and gold leafing detail on the vaulted ceilings,” says Cathy Mills, Managing Director of CityFlatsHotel. “The original bank vault and safety deposit boxes are still here today and make a great photo op for guests.”

Outdoor dining is available at the Fair Weather Grill & CityFloats.

Outdoor dining is available within the hotel at the Fair Weather Grill & CityFloats and indoor dining at its restaurants The Kitchen and the Bar. For those who would like to venture out to explore more of downtown Port Huron, the hotel is only a short walk away from several coffee shops, boutiques, and restaurants, as well as a movie theater.

In November 2015, the building was purchased and approved for brownfield redevelopment and converted into CityFlatsHotel, downtown Port Huron’s first boutique hotel. Fields says particular attention was paid to incorporating Michigan and locally-sourced products into its offerings.

“CityFlats recognizes all Michigan has,” she says. “We support and offer local items including CityDrem custom mattresses and eco-friendly bamboo bedding, we get our event menu items from Country Style Marketplace in downtown Port Huron, and serve coffee from Lexington Coffee Co. in our restaurants.”
