Annual Michigan Outdoor Summit celebrates, strengthens outdoors communities

The annual Michigan Outdoor Summit in Traverse City brings together a host of players in the diverse outdoors sector. Their goal? To celebrate the outdoors and encourage more Michiganders to appreciate the natural beauty around them.

Spark grant will help Onaway with trailhead, recreation improvements

Onaway, a small city not far from the Mackinac Bridge, has been awarded a big Michigan Spark grant to help with the development and improvement of recreational amenities and a trailhead.

Another piece of the Trail of Two Cities -- a nearly completed eight-mile pathway connecting Beaverton and Gladwin -- is moving forward, thanks to a Spark grant from the Council of Michigan Foundations and Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Spark Grants help park projects across Michigan

Twenty-nine communities across Michigan are sharing $24.2 million Spark Grants, created in partnership with the Council for Michigan Foundations and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The funds will be used to create, renovate or redevelop community informed public recreation opportunities.

Small ports welcome uptick in Great Lakes cruises

Interest in cruising the Great Lakes continues to grow, and small ports along Michigan's vast shoreline are welcoming more passengers. They're disembarking to explore downtowns, historic sites and natural landmarks.

New ‘ride’ showcases Cadillac as an ORV destination

The growing popularity of off-road vehicles prompted the Cadillac Area Visitors Bureau to take another look at local roads. The result? The newly designated ORV Scenic Ride offers outdoor enthusiasts a 100-plus-mile excursion through woods and scenic spots in Wexford County.
