Winning the grand prize “was really influential in making this project go from, you know, kind of just talk and an idea to a reality,” says Jessie Black, Big Rapids Community Economic Development specialist.
“Historic resources and archaeological sites tell us about the past and help us define Michigan’s unique identity,” says Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer Martha MacFarlane-Faes. “Their preservation is vital to Michigan’s present and future as they contribute to vibrant communities and our understanding of the past.”
“Trails are critical to the Upper Peninsula’s economy, and we are proud to partner with Lyme to secure these trails forever,” says Ron Yesney, the DNR’s Upper Peninsula trails coordinator.
“The trail extension will take you from our beautiful historic downtown, through the wilderness, across the river, and end at the only organic brewery in Michigan, River St. Joe Brewery at Flatwater Farms. How cool is that,” says Rich Murphy, Buchanan’s community development director.
