Construction is underway at a new Amazon delivery center in the city of Clare’s third and newest industrial park.

The facility joins other Amazon sites in Gaylord and Traverse City.

“This delivery station will allow us to better serve customers in Clare and the surrounding area,” says Kyle DeGiulio, senior manager of economic development for Amazon. “We’re grateful for our partnership with the city of Clare and we look forward to sharing more details about this facility in the future.”

If all continues to go as planned, the building will open in the spring, says Jeremy Howard, Clare city manager. “We are grateful for Amazon’s confidence in Clare and look forward to building a strong, collaborative partnership with them as they become part of the Clare community,” he says.

What’s happening: Construction on the 82,000-square-foot single story structure in Clare began last summer, Howard says, and the contractor on site at that time estimated completion in about 10 months. The city announced the project in November.

Amazon reached out to Clare to inquire about land available in the city’s industrial park, and that started a review of the location at 580 Industrial Parkway in 2024. “This new Amazon facility (in Clare) represents a significant investment in our local economy, bringing new jobs, growth opportunities, and continued momentum for the city,” Howard says. “ It highlights Clare’s ongoing growth as a logistics and distribution hub and reaffirms the city’s position as a great place to do business.”

About the Amazon process: Amazon packages are transported to delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment and sorting centers and then employees process customer packages for last-mile delivery. The new delivery station in Clare will help power the last mile of Amazon’s fulfillment process by enabling fast, everyday delivery directly to customers’ doorsteps, according to a news release about the project.

Other rural Michigan sites: They include a warehouse on U.S. 31 near Traverse City and a fulfillment center at 807 Airport Access Road, Traverse City. An Amazon Distribution Center in Gaylord was completed in 2024. The building is 42,500 square feet and sits on eight acres in the city’s industrial park. There is also a fulfillment center in Caledonia in Kent County.

Amazon impact: Since 2010, Amazon has created 24,000 full- and part-time jobs in Michigan and invested more than $15 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation to their employees. The average base wage for hourly employees in the United States is more than $22 per hour and average total compensation is more than $29 per hour when the value of elected benefits such as health care from the first day on the job are added.

What people are saying: “We are thrilled to welcome Amazon to the City of Clare! This new delivery stationis a wonderful addition to our community and a continued sign of the great things happening in Clare,” Clare Mayor Pat Humphrey says. “This project will create jobs, stimulate local commerce, and strengthen Clare’s economic future. Most importantly, it shows that companies like Amazon see the same potential and hometown pride in Clare that we do.”
