What’s happening: Outstanding 4-H alumni, volunteers, youth, staff, and partners were recently honored at the 2026 Michigan 4-H Legacy Awards Celebration at the MSU University Club in Lansing. Hosted by Michigan State University Extension and the Michigan 4-H Foundation, the event gathered and honored these dedicated individuals for making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

What they’re saying: “The Michigan 4-H program has the power to change lives,” said Jodi Schulz, state 4-H leader for Michigan. She noted that the event thanks those who make a meaningful difference through their gifts of time, talent, and treasure. Lisa Bottomley, co-director of MSU Extension’s children and youth programs, added that the recipients “represent the spirit of 4-H at its very best.”

About the awards:  The celebration presented several of Michigan 4-H’s highest adult honors:

  • 4-H Citation Awards: Given to Dr. Julie Chapin, Dr. Tom Coon, and Sandra Clarkson Stuckman.
  • Emerald Clover Society: Inducted nine prominent alumni, including State Rep. Gerald A. Neyer and local leaders from communities like Lake Leelanau and Detroit.
  • Salute to Excellence Awards: Honored Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer Jean Martin and Volunteer of the Year Bryan Shirk.
  • Excellence in Agriculture Awards: Recognized five standout 2026 agricultural mentors.
